We hit the Ocoee River
(in more ways than one) at the end of June '97 and August '98.
The Ocoee is located at the
Tennessee and Georgia borders and has plenty of Class III
and a few Class IV rapids. On the first trip I managed to stay in the boat (although I drank a
lot of water) all the way until the end - when I encountered
HellHole,
a little Class IV rapid. I rapidly became dislodged from the boat.
Our guide hadn't been on the river in over a year so he "forgot" about which sweet
spots to follow. Somehow we all made it through the '98 trip (water was high because of El Nino.)
