My bestest buddy (Kit) moved to Chicago with his (then) wife Chelle in January of '98 to pursue their acting carreers, and I haven't seen them since. So for July 4th weekend, I called up Chelle to help me with the surprise. He had no idea I was coming. It was a blast...

Chicago Hope
Outside Wrigley Field,
Here I am being "pedestrian directed" after leaving the Cubs
game. You want to make friends with these people.

Chocolate Fudge
I'm your ice cream man, babe... stop me when I'm passin' by..." When we
couldn't afford our beer tab, we agreed to work for it.

This is the fountain that was in the opening credits for Married With Children.
Kit calls it the "Love and Marriage
Fountain." None of us knew its real name.

Here is that world-famous Pablo Picasso
statue that is in the middle of downtown. You may have seen Jake and Elwood run by
it a lot at the end of The
Blues Brothers. It's supposed to be Picasso's Afgan dog or a baboon of some
sort. I know very little about art, and this is just another one to be added to
"Ricky's List of Pieces of Art That He Doesn't Get."

Murphy's Bleachers
Outside Wrigley Field,
That's me standing in the middle of the street in front of Murphy's Bleachers, a required watering
hole if you're a tourist in Chicago.
Kit told me that the bar is completely run by Chicago
cops, and by the looks of the thugs that work there, I believe him.

Sanford sans Son
Murphy's Bleacher's Deck,
This was just too funny not to take a picture of. Kit tells me there's even more
characters in this city than in New Orleans. I bet I met them all. My favorite
is the black woman walking in the middle of downtown Thursday's hustle and bustle, yelling
at the top of her lungs, "You like all dem white women, Debbie. You know it's
true, don't lie!"

Here is a picture I took of the Sears Tower stretching into the clouds. Kit and Chelle
are at the bottom right of the picture giving each other a smooch but it didn't come out
so well. I really wanted to go to the observation deck and look over Chicago (the
tower is 110 stories tall,) but the line was as long as the building is high. Only
one of the two things I wanted to see but didn't on the trip.
